C7. Campaign Ads have Multiple Goals

Description:
This lesson will help students understand that campaign ads have multiple goals.

To Teachers:

• Create groups of 3 to 4 students.
• Assign groups two campaign years.
• Give each group a worksheet.

Materials:
Worksheet Word document | PDF

Worksheet Instructions:

• Go to EASE History -- http://www.easehistory.org/
• Search on campaign years in EASE History Theme Search Page. [EASE History Home Page>Theme Search] Do an "or" search.
• Examine at least six ads from each campaign year.
• Select two ads-- one from each campaign year.
• Column 2: How does the ad highlight the candidate’s strengths and compensate for the candidate’s weaknesses? Candidate profiles are available through the artifacts icon on campaign ads. Profiles include information on the candidate’s strengths and weaknesses.
